You know the obnoxious people in the street collecting money for some unknown charity? They tap on your window during a red light, then you clumsily feel around the dark corners of your car to find any amount of change to drop into the boot so you can ease your guilt. Well, for several hours this evening that was me. Turns out, taxi drivers are almost always going to come up with a few quarters to give you, if bus drivers open their doors for you, they may actually want to give you money and not just be mistaking you for a passenger, and street lights are shorter than you think. Our no-name charity was called "Helping Children of Abuse." They've just gotten started and are trying to raise money to start after school programs and day camps. Service isn't always comfortable.
THis week we also pulled up carpet (and all the nails and staples involved) in a house owned by a Catholic Church, as well as boxed over 1000 pounds of bread at the Greater Chicago Food Depositry. As the week comes to a close we're all tired and having a bit of trouble getting up in the morning. Tomorrow we start our regular service assignments. I"m going to be working at a crisis food center for people with AIDS. I have no idea what to expect, but It'll be nice having a more regular routine!!

Ah, Jazz
Today we got blindfolded and dropped off in the city. The point was to figure out where we were and get home. My partner and I took a detour to the Chicago Jazz Festival, which is still going on. Unfortunately, we have been busy this weekend and I haven't had a lot of free time, but aahh, how I like jazz. Tomorrow the Charles Mingus Big Band is playing (for free). I'm definitely getting on the CTA (Chicago Transit Authority) and going:) How cool would it be to live in a city with free stuff and cool music festivals? hhhmmmm. What's stopping me?
